They may be studying subjects from veterinary science to zoology and will join in the daily routine work here alongside our permanent staff and volunteers. Veterinary students can gain practical experience by observing and helping our resident vet Dr. Tum. Hold the cursor over each photo to see a description

We wanted to locate sea turtle nests that could then be protected to increase the chances of successful hatching. In addition, project researchers were attempting to identify habitats for adults and/or juvenile turtles and simultaneously assess reef health on the islands off the coast of Baan Thalaenork. In order to improve habitat quality and set a positive example to local villagers, last year a campaign to remove litter from the beaches that were to be surveyed was deemed necessary. The facilities for this work were sadly destroyed by the tsunami and we have cancelled volunteer placements with this project for the season. If you are interested in participating in the future, please see below. Becoming a sea turtle volunteer, please visit Marine project page on WAR's site or contact Khun Pump volunteer @warthai.org.
SPECIES LIST PROJECT We enjoy collecting data concerning the wild animals around our center in our limited spare time. Almost all of our focal groups are terrestrial vertebrates. The specific methods used for the wild animal groups are: observing, collecting specimens, tracking and call or song identification. They were all applied for this project. From April 2004 until the present ( January 2005 ) , 5 species of AMPHIBIANS have been found. We believe others are present and expect to find more in the future. All of them are commonly found species in the surrounding area. The Indochinese Dwarf Toad ( Bufo parvus ) is the most common in this region and can be found all over the forest floor in the rainy season. REPTILIANS , 18 species were recorded and a few unknown species were found. AVIANS ,103 species of birds were recorded. We set a special observation program for intern students ( May-June 2004 ) and we usually spend our spare time bird watching and collecting data, so we have a sizeable bird list now. MAMMALIANS , 24 species of mammalians were recorded. For some mammals on the list we cannot specify the exact species name as there are many that are similar within one taxonomic group. More accurate identification would require specialist trapping and/or observation equipment. In these cases we put "Unknown" or just the generic name (ex. Rhinolophus sp.).
